Brian's biography
Brian Bulkley has been a professional illustrator since the mid 1970's. Brian really came into his own when he was asked by a friend to do a watercolor rendering of his two corgis in 2002. Since that time, pet painting has become his favorite work.
Brian enjoys getting to know the pets through the photos sent by their owners. Illustrating their unique personalities correctly is one of his primary goals and one that he feels is at the very heart of a great pet portrait.
“My true satisfaction comes from hearing from clients that their portraits are prized possessions that will become family heirlooms.” says Brian. “Hearing that something I have had so much fun doing makes people so happy is an incredible feeling.”

Most of his professional career, Brian worked in the retail sector, illustrating merchandise for departments stores; Joseph Horne Co. in Pittsburgh and Nordstrom in Seattle. He was a product illustrator specialist.
As a freelance illustrator since 1997 Brian has done a variety of projects such as painting murals for a children's clothing store and illustrating two children’s books. Brian also worked on architectural illustration for Nordstrom and Radisson Hotels. He was art director for the national Gene Marshall doll convention from 2003-2005, where he designed and illustrated convention souvenirs and illustrated the official convention dolls.
Three of his favorite pet illustrations are shown here.

| Chandler (West Highland Terrier)
Chandler is an urban fellow. His owners have a small vintage toy and accessory store in New York’s East Village. He makes the trip in to the city from his home in New Jersey on occasion and gets to explore the streets of Manhattan just like all the tourists. He has several neckerchiefs that he likes to wear - people tell him how jaunty he looks in them. In this picture he’s at home relaxing on his favorite quilt bedspread.
